The short answer

In 2026, a small business website usually costs one of three ways. A DIY website builder runs roughly $17 to $160 a month but you build and maintain it yourself. A freelancer or agency typically charges $1,500 to $15,000 or more up front, with hosting and maintenance billed separately. A monthly website plan, like Genie BI's, rolls design, the build, hosting and upkeep into one payment: ours start at $250 a month.

These ranges come from published 2026 pricing guides such as WebsiteSetup's small business website cost guide and the builders' own plan pages. Prices in East Texas tend to sit at the lower end of agency ranges, but the structure is the same everywhere.

What you are really paying for

Every website has the same five costs, whether you see them on one bill or five:

  1. Design: how the site looks and how it is organized.
  2. Development: building the pages, forms, store or portal.
  3. Hosting and domain: keeping the site online and secure, with SSL.
  4. Search setup (SEO): structure, titles, descriptions and speed so customers and AI assistants can find you.
  5. Maintenance: updates, backups, fixes and content edits after launch.

The cheapest-looking option is often the one that leaves one of these out. A $1,500 build with no maintenance becomes a slow, outdated site in two years. A $17 builder plan becomes forty hours of your time.

Option 1: DIY website builders

Builders like Wix and Squarespace are the cheapest way to get something online. Paid plans run from about $17 a month to more than $100 a month for business and store features. The trade-off is your time and a site built from the same templates as thousands of others. Good for: brand-new businesses testing an idea, or owners who enjoy doing it themselves.

Option 2: Freelancers and agencies

Hiring someone to build a site gets you real design help. Published guides put freelance small business sites around $1,500 to $8,000 and full-service agency sites around $5,000 to $15,000 or more. Hosting, maintenance and edits are usually extra, often $50 to $500 a month or billed by the hour. Good for: businesses with a large budget up front and someone on staff to manage the vendor.

Option 3: A monthly website plan

A monthly plan spreads the cost of a custom site over time and bundles the upkeep. At Genie BI, the Website plan starts at $250 a month and includes custom design, the build, an online store if you need one, hosting, SEO setup, backups, monitoring and edits. The Business + Admin Portal plan starts at $300 a month and adds inventory, CRM and order management. Good for: small businesses that want a custom site without a large up-front bill, and want one team to call for everything.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website from Genie BI cost?

Websites start at $250 a month. That one price covers custom design, the build, hosting, SEO setup and updates after launch. If you also need an admin portal for inventory, customers or orders, the Business + Admin Portal plan starts at $300 a month. The price stays the same no matter how many pages your site has or how much traffic it gets.

What is included in the $250 a month website plan?

A custom-designed, hand-built website; an online store or product catalog if you sell online; hosting on Cloudflare's global network with SSL; SEO setup; uptime monitoring; regular backups; and updates and content edits after launch.

What does the $300 a month plan add?

Everything in the Website plan, plus a private admin portal for your team. It can include inventory tracking, customer management (CRM), order management and custom tools built around how your business runs.

Where is Genie BI located, and what areas do you serve?

Genie BI is based in Henderson, Texas, in Rusk County. We build websites for businesses across East Texas, including Tyler, Longview, Kilgore, Marshall, Lufkin and Nacogdoches, and we work with businesses anywhere in the United States by phone and email.

Are your websites built from templates?

No. Every site is designed from a blank page for one business and built by hand. You get the look of a custom agency site at a small-business monthly price.

Why are your websites so affordable?

One small team designs, builds and hosts every site on its own infrastructure. There is no agency markup, no hand-offs between companies and no separate bills for hosting, SEO and maintenance.

Can you build an online store?

Yes. Online stores and product catalogs are included in the Website plan. If you need inventory tracking or order management behind the store, the Business + Admin Portal plan adds them.

Can you redesign my existing website?

Yes. We rebuild slow, outdated or hard-to-edit sites, and we can move your site off a DIY builder or another host onto our hosting.

Do you help with SEO and showing up on Google?

Yes. Every site gets an SEO setup: clean page structure, titles and descriptions, structured data for search engines and AI assistants, and fast loading. Local businesses get pages written for the towns they serve.
